Joint statement by the GNAT against the so-called peace plan of the US administration

    JOINT STATEMENT
BY THE TURKISH GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
Subject: The so-called Israel-Palestine Peace Plan of the United States of America
The plan, which appears to have been prepared by the US Administration unilaterally, totally
excluding Palestine which is one of the parties of the conflict, with a one-sided and unfair
approach, is completely against the UN resolutions and the perspective of a two-state solution.
This plan, rather than providing a ground for negotiation between the parties, aims to provide
international legitimacy to Israeli occupation which has intensively been carried out for decades
in the Palestinian territories, including Masjid Aqsa/Al Aqsa Mosque, the heart of humanity,
and impose it on the Palestinian side. The aim is to turn the occupation process into annexation.
Disregarding the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Palestinian people, primarily the right
to self-determination, and ignoring international law and justice, making such an important
issue a domestic policy material which directly concerns the peace, security and stability of the
entire Middle East is distressing and extremely concerning.
The so-called peace plan of the US Administration, which has lost the trust of the Palestinian
side due to the policies it has pursued so far in the most basic confliction areas such as the status
of Jerusalem, the Palestinian refugees’ right to repatriation and illegal settlements is stillborn.
This initiative, which ignores the vision of a two-state solution and contains suggestions that
reflect the violation of the basic rules of international law, particularly the relevant UN
resolutions, is unlikely to be accepted by the international community.
We, hereby, reemphasize once again that the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian issue will be
possible only through the emergence of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine within
the geographical continuity, whose capital is East Jerusalem and based on the borders of 1967.
Turkey will not support any initiative which does not oversee the fundamental rights and
freedom of Palestinian people and which is not adopted by the State of Palestine and its people,
and will continue to defend the legitimate rights of Palestine on all platforms against
persecution, imposition and occupation with those members of international community who
have conscience and a sense of responsibility in unity and solidarity.
We, as the political parties that have parliamentary groups in the Grand National Assembly of
Turkey, reject and condemn with regret the supposedly peace-oriented but essentially instability
and conflict promoting plan declared by the US Administration on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
