SOFIA, OCTOBER 26h1 2004
With this letter, I would like to officially present to your kind attention the applitatiOn of Mr.
Stanimir fichev, 1-lead of the Bulgarian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO, for the
position of a Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO.
It is a matter of national pride to emphasize the fact that Bulgaria was the first country of the
former socialist bloc to set up its national Atlantic club to promote the values of the Trans-Atlantic
Alliance, and it was only in the year following the fall of the communist regime in. Bulgaria that these
values were voiced in the Bulgarian Parliament by the present Minister of Foreign Affairs of the
country. Therefore, the candidacy is as much a personal ambition, as it reflects the desire of the people
of my country to gain more of the well-deserved respect within the community of NATO member states.
In addition, I firmly believe that Bulgaria is still to play a vital rose in making the whole Balkan
region an area of increased security, co-operation and mutual understanding.
I avail myself of this opportunity to assure you in my highest esteem of you personally and of
your country and remain trustful that you will consider the application of Mr. Ilchey and help us win the
support for it of the members of your Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO.
Sincerely yours,
Prof. Og a rdjikov
