Dear Heads of Delegations,
A Presidential election has been called in Turkey for 10 August 2014, and following an
invitation from the Government of Turkey, OSCE PA President Ilkka Kanerva has decided to
deploy an election observation mission to this important election.
Please find attached a registration form for Members wishing to observe the election in
Turkey. We kindly ask you to return the completed form with a copy of the photograph page
from Members’ passports and a digital photograph to the International Secretariat at
(eom@oscepa.dk) as soon as possible, but no later than 23 July 2014. Please note that due to
registration procedures, we may not be able to accommodate those who register after the
deadline.
The International Secretariat estimates an overall mission of some 20 OSCE PA
Members. To ensure geographical balance within the Assembly mission, we invite each national
delegation to nominate no more than 10% of this figure (2 Members plus a maximum of one
staff from each country). Please note that a second round of the election may be held two weeks
later, on 24 August.
Further information will be distributed to participants soon. Briefings for the mission are
expected to be held during the 2 days before election day in Ankara, and Members are reminded
that in accordance with the OSCE PA’s Astana Declaration of 2008, participants are expected to
attend the full briefing programme as well as the de-briefing on the day following the election.
I wish to remind you that national parliaments are responsible for their Members’
expenses and that only English interpretation will be provided in meetings and briefings.
